Marisquería Pueblo Chiclero in Bacalar is a seafood haven that captures the essence of local culinary traditions. Nestled in front of Hotel Amigos, this family-run restaurant boasts a warm ambiance where guests are treated like family. Patrons rave about the freshness and flavors, with many declaring it the best meal they've had during their travels in Mexico.
Highlighting their signature dishes, the hogfish and ceviche are standout recommendations from the owner, Jorge, who makes it a point to engage with guests and share his family’s rich culinary heritage. Visitors appreciate the authentic Bacalar experience, which contrasts sharply with the more commercial dining found in Playa del Carmen and Tulum.
Reviewers express delight in the expertly cooked pescado frito, which bursts with flavor, and the cucumber-lime juice adds a refreshing twist to the meal. The inviting atmosphere fosters connections among diners, encouraging laughter and perhaps, a few shared tunes by the end of the evening.
For an immersive experience that marries excellent seafood with heartfelt hospitality, Marisquería Pueblo Chiclero is a must-visit destination for any seafood lover in Bacalar.

We happened to pass by this restaurant and decided to give it a try. It turned out to be our best meal in Mexico (mind you, we also visited Mexico City and had a great meal there). We asked the owner for recommendations and he recommended this fish, which was super delicious. Everything was fresh and well seasoned. As the owner himself said, we ate like true Bacalarians that day

Newly opened less than one year ago, this family restaurant offers traditional Bacalar dishes as if you were dining with your abuela. The hogfish is superbly cooked, I think it's the first time I see it on a restaurant menu, it's a must try if you are in the area! Jorge will make you feel at home and explain the menu; you'll make new friends for the night and maybe end up singing a song or two with them! It felt so much more authentic and welcoming than the Playa and Tulum fanciness. Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing, by far the best food we had in Mexiko two weeks in. The Fish and the Shrimp ceviche both insanely fresh and tasteful. 10/10. Super nice service and fresh to sit without heat

An absolute gem! We stopped in for a beer after a great walk, but the warm welcome from this wonderful family-run spot convinced us to stay for an early dinner—and we’re so glad we did! The Pescado Frito and ceviche were both outstanding, fresh, and full of flavor. Since we arrived during a quiet time, we had the pleasure of chatting with Jorge and learning about his family’s story, which made the experience even more special. They even invited us into the kitchen for a peek at our fish being expertly deep-fried! We’ll definitely be back for more!

Had a very nice diner. The owner spoke perfect english and showed me different fish of the day and respective prices before cooking. I took the fish of the day with garlic sauce and it was amazing. The lime and cucumber juice was nice as well.

Fantastic lunch!! We both ordered the fried fish (one plain and one with garlic), they used Hogfish (boquinete) and it was the best lunch we've had in Bacalar. If you are in Bacalar, you must stop here, at one of the local restaurants of the city. It is owned by a family (father, son and their wives) and they are very friendly. The father is funny and very friendly, and the son speaks good english! If we had more days in Bacalar, we would definitely eat here more often.

A non-assuming place next to the road, but I saw the good reviews and thought it was worth a try. Maybe the best meal we’ve had in Mexico! We had the catch of the day. The waiting staff told us that the fish was quite big so might be too much for one person and gave us a big one to share, with beans and rice and tortillas, salad and coleslaw and plantain. Was so delicious. The staff are very friendly and the beer is cheap too. We spent 500 pesos total for two people, including four beers. A few locals came to eat here, and there were a few hungry cats circulating but not pestering. Highly recommend!

Came across this place on Google and we were beyond impressed. Great food and it is family owned so that is a plus. Locals there that made the experience even better. My husband and I got a Medium ceviche that seemed like a large and we got the catch of the day fish. It was the perfect amount and don’t get me started on the taste of it all. The salsa they make is so spicy and delicious. We spent around 900 pesos with 3 drinks included. Would definitely go back and recommend. Also they had a beautiful cat there super friendly and the son of the owner told us they had an event to help all the stray animals. Love it!!
